Television Q&A: Is a 'Young Sheldon' spinoff in the works?

You have questions. I have some answers.

Q: As much as we enjoyed “Young Sheldon” when he was cute and precocious, it is painful to see him as an obnoxious teenager. We won't miss him. However, I think it could have an amazing spinoff! The rest of the cast is terrific.

A: While “Young Sheldon” will end on May 16, CBS has plans for a sequel series focusing on Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment), which will air in the 2024-25 season. Not much more has been said about the show, except that “the sequel follows … Georgie (Jordan) and Mandy (Osment) as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage.” There have also been reports of a “Big Bang Theory”-related series coming to Max, though what and when it will be is still unclear.

Q: I watched a movie some years ago about a woman during World War II who worked as a secretary. She volunteered to pose as a secretary and spy on a Nazi officer. As the movie continues, she is caught and injured. Someone posing as an officer helps her escape. I thought the word "Crossing" may be in the title.

A: After I sent you some information, you confirmed that the movie was 1992’s “Shining Through,” starring Melanie Griffith and Michael Douglas. Ways to see it include Spectrum on Demand, DVD, Blu-ray and digital purchase or rental.

Q: I am very unhappy about the cancellation of “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas.” CBS could dump two shows currently on Friday Night: “S.W.A.T.” and the firefighting prisoners. I have never watched either of those. By the way, I never watched “S.W.A.T.” when it was on years ago either.

A: I’ve been getting a lot of letters about the end of “So Help Me Todd,” and I’ve said it has enough of a following that there’s a chance it will show up somewhere else. But it’s worth pointing out that every show has fans — and haters. My wife, for one, regularly watches “Fire Country” and “S.W.A.T.,” both of which are due back next season. And I’m curious what will happen on “S.W.A.T.,” which has been saying farewell to several characters in what was supposed to be its last season — only to be picked up for another round.

Q: I have unsuccessfully been trying to remember a movie title from the mid-1950s. The story is about a young boy who is the lone survivor of a small plane crash — during the rescue attempt, there are three women who are waiting nearby to learn if he is the son they each gave up for adoption.

A: That was “Three Secrets,” a 1950 drama featuring Eleanor Parker, Patricia Neal and Ruth Roman. There is also a 1999 remake.

Q: There was a program not that long ago "The Mallorca Files" on BBC America and PBS. Do you know if there is any plan to continue this program? They had basically two seasons and then the pandemic hit and haven't heard anything more about the program since then?

A: A third season of the series about two detectives, one Welsh and one German, is on the way, probably later this year.
