VANCOUVER, British Columbia (UPI) -- A crow that has gained a reputation for itself on social media due to its repeated antics has been accused of attempting to steal evidence from a crime scene.

Various reports state that "Canuck the crow" was spotted at the scene of a shooting that occurred at a Vancouver McDonalds on Tuesday.

According to Global News, Canuck arrived at the scene where police encountered and shot a man wielding a knife following reports of a car on fire.

Police cordoned off the area to keep people away, but the curious crow would not be deterred and inspected the scene, pecking at police tape and news cameras, resting on police cars and even picking up pieces of evidence.

Vancouver Courier reporter Mike Howell told the CBC that Canuck took a special interest in the knife held by the suspect and attempted to carry it away from the scene.

"A cop chased it for about 15 to 20 feet, and then the crow dropped it and took off," he said. It was really strange. In my 20-plus years reporting from crime scenes, I've never seen anything like that crow trying to take a knife.

Police confirmed that the crow did carry the knife away for a while but assured that it was eventually returned and properly filed.

"The crow was persistent, but the knife was eventually gathered as evidence," Const. Brian Montague said.
