Can I share my own experience of living the Christian life?

Q: I have an opportunity to become a life coach. When I see how easily influenced people are by the culture, I’m reluctant to tell others how to get through life in a wholesome way. Should I leave this to the experts or can I share my own experience of living the Christian life? – W.I.

A: Advertisers know people are more likely to buy a product if they can convince us everyone likes it. They hope people will say to themselves, “If everyone else is using it, then it must be good, so I should buy it too.” But Christians are called to speak God’s truth to those in our sphere of influence. We are all influencers in some way.

Satan puts such things in our minds: “Look at the way most people are living,” he’ll whisper in our ear. “Look at all the others out there in the world having a good time — enjoying all that life has to offer; living for themselves, absorbed in the moment, not bothering about God or eternity. Follow them — that’s the path to real life!”

But such a whisper is a lie. Jesus warned that Satan’s way will lead only to destruction. Jesus calls us to take another path — His path. It may be harder, less popular, and far fewer take it. But it alone offers us true peace and joy — the kind that can come only from knowing God. The pathway to Him leads to eternal life.

The feet of the Christian should tread the narrow path that the Savior trod, keeping in step with Him. God wants to put us on a new path, a better path — His path. Choosing God’s path is of supreme importance: it leads us to Heaven. The Bible’s message is indispensable, and its influence on individuals and society over the centuries has been enormous.
